To help the world’s most famous and iconic tennis tournament continue to expand its following around the world by inviting fans to step through the gates of the historic All England Club and see it for themselves.
Working closely with Wimbledon’s digital team, we settled on the idea of creating a VR film targeted at the opening day of the Championships. From the opening of the gates, to the practice courts and the iconic Centre Court itself, we aimed to create a VR experience that featured Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Serena and Venus Williams, to name but a few of, the world’s best players to release on Facebook & YouTube.
Our five-man crew were at SW19 as the sun rose on the opening day of the Championships, capturing the world-famous queue to get in right through to the gates being closed. We shot on the practice courts with Andy Murray and Serena Williams, before following Novak Djokovic onto Centre Court as he began the defence of his title.
Our rigs were in the right place at the right time to give the audience a sense of the scale of the All England Club and the buzz within the crowd as big matches came and went. The content was handed onto our team of stitchers and editors who produced the finished piece for Wimbledon in 24 hours.
The Wimbledon experience attracted widespread publicity and praise and was watched by huge numbers across Wimbledon’s Facebook and YouTube pages. We also provided a gallery of 360 stills.
